Kinda weird looking, but still, he's a baaaaaaby!

A young Vernay's ratel at the San Diego Zoo starts to explore his enclosure. Ratels, also known as honey badgers because of their affinity for honey, are native to forest and brush areas of Africa, Middle East and India. This young male ratel, born Oct. 20, will soon be going on exhibit at the San Diego Zoo. (AP Photo/ Zoological Society of San Diego, Tammy Spratt - December 13, 2005)

Ratels are notoriously bad-tempered. They're one of the few animals that will literally throw a tantrum. They do the works, rolling on the ground, growling at nothing, throwing things. I saw one throwing a really good one on a doco once because it had lost its mousey snack somewhere in a small log. It got so angry it started banging the log on the ground and kicking it, then it rolled around snarling in fury that it had been thwarted by a mouse. I think they're awesome!

Oh the really cool thing isn't just that they dig into nests, but that there's a species of bird called a Honey Guide that will lead badgers to hives to they can get some of the leftover honeycomb. They'll even lead people.
