| Baaaaby Hippo Swimming Lessons |
[04/07/12] |
Monifa is a baby pygmy hippo who is being hand-raised at Taronga zoo following a breech birth that made it hard for her mother to feed her.
This video is from the first time she went swimming on her own -- as one of her carers explains, there was a problem with the water supply for her post-feeding bath and so they decided to take her to the shallows of the moat surrounding her enclosure. And could not keep her from toodling around in the deeps:

| Baby Bald Eaglet! |
[03/29/12] |
I've been following a live stream that has a camera set up next to a bald eagle nest in Iowa. Two days ago, there was a hatch, plus one more yesterday! Here's a clip of the two-day-old eaglet with Mom nearby (don't worry, she moves aside to give a better view of the eaglet).

(Yeah, his (her?) name is D12 and the sibling is D13, but methinks they could use better names than that...)

| Baaaaby Barbados Cat |
[03/18/12] |
My parents are retired and go to Barbados for two months each winter. They came back the other day and my dad sent me this picture he took on their next to last day there. There's a colony of feral cats living along the beaches and patches of wood by the shore near the rather rural area where they stay. Some are more comfortable with humans than others.
( Not quite a kitten, nor yet a cat )

| Baby cat! |
[03/16/12] |
This is a picture of my cat Calli when she was just a little baby. She just turned 14 years old yesterday. She's still a kitten at heart, though.
